Letter to copy and paste (from * to *):

*To the Honourable Premier Brad Wall:

I am one of many health care workers in Saskatchewan that is looking for the Sask Party government to intervene and direct SAHO back to the bargaining table.

You passed a law that entitles our employer to declare us either an essential or a non-essential employee. This effectively took away our right to fair collective bargaining. The employer’s essential services plans set out, in some cases, more staff being deemed essential during job action than the actual staffing levels we face each day. It is quite frustrating when unsafe staffing levels put both staff and clients at risk on any other day – and it simply does not appear to resonate with the employer, SAHO or the Minister of Health.

You have also allowed SAHO to walk away from our bargaining table twice. The first time they walked away and then requested conciliation. After the Unions agreed to conciliation, SAHO walked away from this process too. The SAHO final offer is an insult to those of us who know and understand that others in private and public sector have and continue to receive reasonable wage increases. Why do you devalue our work?

The final offer does not address our critical retention and recruitment issues. Vacancies will continue to remain unfilled – staff shortages create unsafe work environments. How can we put our patients first when you continue to put health care providers last?

The final offer does nothing to address our parity issues with respect to premiums, allowances and professional fees. It contains rollbacks that take away any measure of balance between my work and family life.

I take great pride in my work! Your government, SAHO and the employer do not seem to appreciate that. Mr. Premier, I appeal to you to be respectful of all health providers and demonstrate this by providing all of us with a fair and equitable contract offer.

Health providers care for the people of Saskatchewan on a day to day basis. We deserve better – please direct SAHO back to the bargaining table.

Essentially yours,*
